THE CHAMPIONS VOLUNTEER FOUNDATION CELEBRATES AND DONATES TO 44 LOCAL NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

The Champions Volunteer Foundation (TCVF) donated funding to 44 of the Coachella Valley’s finest non-profit organizations to help support their remarkable efforts.

Non-profits from across the Coachella Valley were awarded a grand total of $173,700 in grants. Since its inception in 2002, TCVF has given more than $1.6 million to charities in the area including (but not limited to) youth recreational, educational and well-care programs.

Additionally, each year TCVF gives out the Julie Copeland Award, named after the late former Assistant Tournament Director of the BNP Paribas Open (1981 – 1996), which provides additional funding to one of these outstanding organizations for their contributions to the Coachella Valley community.

This year’s Julie Copeland Award recipient is the Stroke Recovery Center in Palm Springs. Stroke is the number one cause of adult disability, and the Stroke Recovery Center (“SRC”) provides therapy and care for patients even when medical coverage runs out. On average the “SRC” sees 35 patients a day and up to 50 during the desert’s peak season. A new state-of-the-art exercise therapy facility is under construction and slated to open in Spring 2015 and will include the increasing number of Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s patients.

TCVF is the main beneficiary of the BNP Paribas Open, the largest non-Grand Slam tennis tournament in the world, and is comprised of more than 1,000 volunteers who work diligently behind the scenes to ensure the event runs smoothly.
