The Make-a-Wish foundation — known for granting the wildest wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses — is coming to the Coachella Valley.

Make-a-Wish, which was founded in 1980, celebrated its new Palm Springs office with a reception at 5:30p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Hacienda Cantina and Beach Club. The Coachella Valley Team was on hand.

“We have been serving children of the Coachella Valley for more than 30 years, but this office gives us the opportunity to have a much more personal relationship with our wish kids as well as our volunteers and contributors,” said Stephanie McCormick, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire.

The organization announced tonight it’s opening an office at 111 South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. It will be led by director Deborah Weiss.

“We are thrilled to bring Make-A-Wish to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley to enhance our reach in the desert communities,” Weiss said. “I look forward to cultivating new relationships with individuals, corporations and others who are passionate about helping grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.”

The space gives the foundation an opportunity to help reach its goal of granting 347 wishes for its current fiscal year, according to McCormick.

“In 2014 we granted 314 wishes and another 565 Wish-Assists where the recipient is not from this area but their desired wish is granted here. Despite the success this only represented 50% of the medically eligible children putting in for a Wish,” shared McCormick.
